Back to the Bay Area for a few video clips

I haven't linked to The Brewing Network in quite some time. Seeing them while in San Francisco reminded me of such things. Plus, now seeing a few of their short video highlights of things I know well, I figured now was as good of a time as ever to catch you up with them.

Winemakers won't be happy with this one-two punch

First, I read on through to an excellent link from Don Russell to a column by an assistant winemaker about the true costs of making wine, even "very good" wine. A very good and enlightening read; Highly Recommended. Now today Don carries on, where as Joe Sixpack, he claims that wine can be made by monkeys! Don't believe?-- go and read it for yourself. Actually, it's a nice primer on sake...just the reference to winemakers that made me laugh. While on the topic of sake and rice, I'll figure that it's a good place to link to a recent interview on The Brewing Network where they talk with Trevor Schaben of Thunderbird Brewing in Kearney, NE about brewing with adjuncts, particularly corn.

A Good Thing to do tonight without leaving home

One of my Sunday night habits that I try not to break too often involves sitting at my desk, cleaning up odds and ends and preparing for the week ahead of me. It almost always includes having The Brewing Network Sunday Session streaming live in the background. (they podcast it up for their website within 24 hours) Tonight (at 8pm eastern time), Stan Hieronymus will be their guest discussing the industry and his new book, "Brewing With Wheat." Stan's respected for his long, well-written career in the beer brewing industry and should provide for good listening tonight. Grab a beer and comfortable chair. Or download it tomorrow morning.

Looking forward to Sunday night on The Brewing Network

Tomorrow night I'll be one week away from celebrating the ending of Fall 2009 marathon training after Philly's marathon. Tomorrow night I'll also be listening The Brewing Network's Sunday Session, where the Bay Area's Jay Brooks will be a guest talking about the industry and his role in documenting it. Should be a great way to spend a cool autumn Sunday evening listening to a great bunch of people talking about a great industry.

Tonight, The Brewing Network pays Tribute to Bill Brand

If you've never listened to a Sunday Session at The Brewing Network, tonight could be a good time to begin. Start at 8pm eastern time with a moment of silence, a beer, and a toast before listening to an archived show with Bill from 2008. They will also interject Beer of the Week clips that Bill had done in the past. If you don't know of Bill and his passing, jump over here for some background. It's been a saddening couple of weeks since the accident on 2/8; this may help to begin the healing process.
