Casey's Irish Pub in Los Angeles, CA
I hesitated writing anything about Casey's Irish Pub in downtown Los Angeles. Heck I didn't even have a beer or take pictures, but figured it was worth a quick mention since the bottle list (not the draft list) and the environment looked appealing enough that I've put their bar on my list of things to do next time I'm in downtown LA. And, that's saying quite a bit, given the level of trashing I threw at the downtown beer scene.
You may recall that I made it over to Bonaventure Brewing and out to Pasadena, with a stop by the airport to the Four Points/Sheraton hotel. But, when I first arrived, I stopped for lunch at Casey's before heading over to my client meeting. Of course, I had an iced tea...wouldn't have prudent to do otherwise. But, on their chalkboard was a group of enticing beers that I've listed below.
With the subterranean nature of the bar, the friendly service, the tasty looking menu, the dark and rich decor of mahogany wood, and the outdoor patio seating (yes, below street level patio seating) it seemed, in the wasteland of downtown beer scene that is Los Angeles, this would be a decent place to hang out at later at night with a few good brews. Though, when faced with this scenario, the bartender gave me a look and response that sort of indicated that I was crazy to think about coming later at night and that it was more of a lunchspot. Well, I suppose I'll have to find out for myself. (pictures to follow after my next visit)

you just need to know where to look in downtown los angeles. too bad you didn't get a chance to hit cole's before they closed for kitchen renovations. but you could try the library bar, weiland brewery, pete's, banquette, golden gopher, bar 107, the redwood - all of them establishments i'd try before hitting casey's.
Great! Thanks much for your notes and taking the time to put in the links too.
I have heard of The Library before and it does indeed sound worth checking out. It's on my short list during my next visit.
And, I believe Weiland, in Little Tokyo, is new since I was there in January, is that right? Or perhaps it was someplace that I recall reading about their big plans for Little Tokyo...sure sounds like a developing area.
